#ListenToTheExperts Is South Africa’s epidemic trajectory unusual? Professor Salim Abdool Karim Chairperson: Covid-19 Ministerial Advisory Committee

Professor Salim Abdool Karim asks the question: “Is South Africa’s COVID-19 infection trajectory unique?”

“When you look at countries that have reached 100 cases, generally there’s almost a point of no return; the epidemic grows exponentially,” he said.

“South Africa is somewhat different. We started off on that trajectory, on that exponential line, and then we turned. When it turned, the epidemic became a flat line, although increasing on a low level – and that’s quite unusual.”
