HEALTH DEPUTY MINISTER TO LAUNCH ADOLESCENT AND YOUTH FRIENDLY SERVICES IN THE EASTERN CAPE
Pretoria: The Deputy Minister of Health, Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo on Wednesday, will this week (15 June) officially launch Adolescent and Youth Friendly Services (AYFS) as part of build-up activities towards the National Youth Day celebrations scheduled for Thursday, 16 June.
The Department of Health youth policy recommended the establishment of Youth Zones in health facilities as part of efforts to standardise the quality of adolescent health services in the country and accelerate access to health services, especially sexual reproductive health services by young people.
Youth Zones are meant to create conducive environment in health facilities for young people to access services and openly interact with healthcare providers without feeling judgemental behaviour. The Zones are also meant to play a role in meeting the practical and psychosocial needs of young people by including operating times that are dedicated and suitable to the youth.
Deputy Minister Dhlomo will be joined by the Eastern Cape MEC for Health, Ms Nomakhosazana Meth and leaders from local government and other stakeholders.
Members of the media are invited to attend the event as follows:
