Minister Phaahla continues with assessment of health services disruptions

Pretoria: Minister of Health, Dr Joe Phaahla will this week continue with the site-visits and assessment of the provision of essential health services in some of the most affected districts and health facilities around the country.

Although, majority of hotspot facilities across the country have been accessible, but clinical operations remain hamstrung by a low nursing and administrative support staff turnout. As a result,  most hospitals are currently depending on the volunteers from the concerned NGOs and local community members, working hand in hand with senior officials from District, Provincial and National Health offices for cleaning and general admin support.

Minister Phaahla has noted a declaration by the trade union NEHAWU on Sunday to intensify the strike action with disappointment, and he reiterates his call for peaceful and non-violent actions to allow non-striking healthcare workers to exercise their constitutional right to work without being intimidated or victimised.

Details of the site-visits are as follows:
Date: Monday, 13 March 2023
Venue: Thelle Mogoerane Regional Hospital,
Vosloorus – Ekurhuleni
Time: 06h00
