If you are looking to join the COVID Alert SA community and help stop the spread of COVID-19 – you are in the right place. The COVID Alert SA app gives everyone the power to protect themselves, their loved ones and keep everyone else safe. The more people who use the app, the more effective it will be.
Play your part as a South African organisation
Every brand or business willing to collaborate to help save lives, can do this in two ways.
Help spread the message
South African businesses and civil society organisations are invited to join this collaborative effort to slow the spread of COVID-19 and save lives. Partners can play a role by spreading the message to encourage everyone to download the COVID Alert SA app.
Introduction to the campaign
high level introduction to campaign and principles
There has never been a more important time for us to work together to solve one of the world’s greatest problems. Through close collaboration, developers, government and healthcare providers have the opportunity to harness the power of technology to slow the spread of COVID-19 and save lives.
COVID Alert SA is South Africa’s official Bluetooth-enabled contact tracing solution and an important tool in the fight against COVID-19.
Every South African company with an established mobile application is invited to support the nation’s contact tracing efforts by linking directly to the COVID Alert SA app from their world.
For COVID Alert SA to be successful and help stop the spread of COVID-19, it requires widespread adoption by users in a given area. By placing a link to COVID Alert SA from your environment, you will provide a path for South Africans to discover the app, and in so doing contribute to saving lives.
Your support for COVID Alert SA will also pave the way to building trust, by having well-known and respected corporations join the movement to encourage South Africans to download the app and make an impact in fighting COVID-19.
Our instruction manual, which you can view below, will assist your developers in building out this requirement. This can be accomplished in a short amount of time and the impact will be enormous.
To make this process as easy as possible, we have provided a manual for your engineering teams, with step by step guidelines.

You can present an instance of `SKStoreProductViewController` with parameters `[SKStoreProductParameterITunesItemIdentifier : “1524618326”]` to show the COVID Alert App Store listing page. From here a user can download the app directly.
After this view controller has dismissed, you can perform a check to see if the user has installed the app, by using `UIApplication.shared.canOpenURL(…)` with the COVID Alert URL scheme. If this returns ‘true’ the user has installed the app and you can update your interface accordingly to indicate that they can now launch directly into the COVID Alert app.
To launch the COVID Alert app, call `UIApplication.shared.openURL(…)` with the COVID Alert URL Scheme.
See the example code below for details.
The package id of the app is `za.gov.health.covidconnect`. To check if the app is installed, use the `PackageManager.getPackageInfo`:
Once you have checked if the app is installed, you can either break out to the Play store, using ‘market://za.gov.health.covidconnect’
or you can open the app using the launch deeplink:
